Soil health projects

Key Messages

Background

Stirlings to Coast Farmers (SCF) have 4 long-term soil health trials on liming to alleviate soil acidity & deep ripping to ameliorate sub soil compaction in the Albany & Mt Barker regions of WA. Long term trial research on liming & deep ripping is rare and the data we have been collating, on a voluntary basis since project start-up funding ceased, needs to be communicated to the wider agricultural community. To do this SCF were successful in recieving funding from the National Landcare Program to support further monitoring and extension of the results from these long-term soil health trial sites. SCF believe by creating and extending this valuable research we can increase the adoption rates of liming to treat soil acidity and encourage further deep ripping in our local area. Extension strategies will be a mixture of tried & true methods, such as field walks & presentations combined with modern communication platforms like YouTube, Facebook & Twitter.
